Onion Rings, Fries and a Shake

4 hour car ride to Astana
+7 hours in a transit hotel
+5 1/2 hour flight from Astana to Frankfurt
+8 1/2 hour flight from Frainkfurt to Chicago
+40 minute flight from Chicago to St. Louis
+2 hour car ride to Carbondale

= Overjoyed to be HOME with our SON

When we arrived at O'Hare, we went straight to Johnny Rockets and ordered onion rings, french fries and a vanilla shake. It was greasy, fatty nirvana! So, we are here. It feels strange - like we were gone forever, yet we were just here. Luca - oh my goodness - Luca has grown inches and is thinking about new, amazing things. I am just so happy to be able to hug and kiss him. He has a 1/2 day of school today, so we are going to have pizza at our Co-op for lunch. Everything feels like such a treat - talking about pancakes with Luca, looking out the window at our backyard, Seattle's Best coffee, a shower, our bed, everything!

All the while, part of me is still back in Kazakhstan with Alia. One foot here, one foot there. Last night Luca said, "I want to see her here for real!" I do too . . . I do too.

Glad you were able to stay at the transit hotel. That is one long trip, but worth it to see Luca again and munch on greasy food. Home Sweet Home for sure! Look forward to hearing about your next steps and seeing you, Luca, and Alia together.

I haven't been checking blogs much recently as we were without electricity (due to Ike wind damage) for 5 days. Now we're back on.

I'm so glad to hear that you're back home with your son, and I hope the time comes quickly for Alia to be joined with you, too.

Enjoy the comforts of home!

Welcome home... for now. When do you head back over? Luca must be over the moon. Or over the moon over Uranus! Oh, and I've been meaning to ask this for a while... how old is Alia?

So glad you made it home!! I've been checking several times a day.

Your food looks good- YUM!

I'm so happy you're back with Luca and all is wonderful on that end of the spectrum. And I am sad that Alia is still in Kazakhstan. Luckily there are only a few (ok, a few times 5 or so) days until she is back in your arms.

I hope you enjoy sleeping in your own bed, drinking the water, doing laundry, etc.!

That photo just makes me hungry.... I wonder where the closest Johnny Rockets is here in Nevada? ;-)

Counting down the minutes until you can be a family with little miss Alia...

Welcome back. Happy to see you guys are back home safely. Funny about Johnny Rockets, our first stop was the McDonald's in the Amsterdam airport. :) I know how you are feeling, leaving your child is the hardest part. Thinking about you and hoping the time passes quickly!

Isn't it nice to be able to brush your teeth with tap water again? ;)

Welcome home. I can even smell those french fries! So glad you can love on Luca while you wait to return to Alia in Kaz. For me, the "between" trips make this whole thing even more surreal. The time will go by amazingly fast!

Welcome back guys!

You know what's weird...we ate at Johnny Rockets on Friday too. We didn't have the milkshake but the onion rings and fries were yum-o! We were with you in spirit and didn't even know it. :)

I happy to hear your home with Luca catching up on all sorts of news...and hugs!

Rest and enjoy your time before you go back for your daughter.
