Bittersweet

. . . the mere resolve not to be useless, and the honest desire to help other people, will, in the quickest and delicatest ways, improve yourself. - John Ruskin

My family has begun the year grieving and reflecting on the life of a woman who has been at the center of theirs for as long as anyone can remember. My grandmother passed away on December 24. The funeral was on December 31.

I have been given an awesome gift - her wedding ring that she wore for 65 years. The only way I can think to honor my grandmother and this gift is to approach the world with unconditional love and deep commitment as she did.

Happy New Year to everyone. I wish you well wherever you are, in whatever you do.

What a gift, and a treasure. And something for you to carry to Kazakhstan? It would be so beautiful for her to "be" with you on your journey.

Thank you for sharing,
Shannon

I'm so deeply sorry for your loss. Grandparents are amazing and very hard to say goodbye to when it is time for them to leave us. My grandma made ceramics throughout her life and my mother made sure all of us received the pieces we loved most as children. I loved all the angels and cherubs so my mother gave me several that I will be putting on shelves in our baby's room. You can keep her spirit alive by thinking of her often and sharing her life with the rest of us.

We will keep you in our prayers.

Angela, I am so sorry for your loss - difficult at any time, and even harder during the holidays. You received a precious gift - it is clear you meant much to her and that she will be watching over you in Kazi. Bet she has already checked out your baby - probably picked the perfect one out just for you. Our prayers are with you and your family.
