Where in the world is "Saskia"

The wheel of fate is spinning - round and round it goes . . . where it stops, nobody knows. Saskia may have been born today or yesterday or tomorrow. Where is she? Currently, our agency works in:

  • Akol
  • Almaty
  • Astana
  • Essik
  • Koksheteau
  • Petropavlovsk
  • Karaganda
  • Stepnogorsk
  • Tshchuchinsk
  • Taldy Korgan
  • Taraz
  • Uralsk

So, at least we have her location (or location-to-be) narrowed down a bit. Where did you (or will you) go to meet your little one? If you have already been there, what is it like?

P.S. I want to draw your attention to the "Packing Checklist" link under "Resources" on the right. This "mother of all packing lists" was provided by and approved for posting by Jennifer. Thanks! Now I can shop . . . and shop . . . and . . . . . . shop.

Hi, I have been a lurker. :) We went to Astana in 04 for our 1st son& then to Karakastek last fall for our 2nd son. Astana was nice, Jabari was very healthy (22lbs 29 3/4" at 11m). We really loved Karakastek, we stayed in Alamty & the city is great. There was always something to go do to kill a day. :) Our son was small, at 71/2m he weighed around 14lbs & was 25". He has grown like crazy & they both are doing well. If you have any more questions about the citys (sorry to try & think off the top of my head...not so good, lol) just send me an email, I'll try & answer them. :)
Good Luck!
Ann

We went to Uralsk to find our daughter. We loved it and hope to return again to visit friends. My husband has already been back once. My two teenagers who traveled with us also want to return. Check out our blog for more info if you'd like.

Well you know where we've been, but I'll post it anyway. We went to Petropavlovsk a.k.a Petro. It is AWESOME! Loved it! It's a wonderful city- very modern (grocery stores with checkout scanners, ATM's, coffee shops, places accepted credit cards, etc.), though not as trendy or large as Almaty.

Dr. Rimma's babyhouse is very well run and the children are all so beautiful and healthy and well taken care of. We met Gigi when she was 6 months old and she was 17 pounds!

If you are interested, here is a description of the Petro baby house as well as some pictures starting at pic 56 (http://www.convergentpaths.com/post.php?&entryid=140)

Hi, I travelled to Almaty (BH1) in 2004 to adopt my daughter (then 8 mos; now 4yo) and really enjoyed parts of the city. I'm a fan of the Green Market and would love to take my daughter back some day! Best Wishes!! Quaintance

Hi,
We were in Almaty (BH 3) and we stayed the entire 9 weeks. Having to stay the entire 9 weeks I am glad we were in a city with something to do. We took our 2.5 year old with us and he enjoyed the parks, walking around the streets to see the many fountains, and Kok-Tobe. The baby house was very big, when we were there it had 120 children and was expecting more. The caretakers were extremely busy but did seem to care for the babies.

I was working on my own post and noticed that WPA changed their website from 12 cities to 10. I checked with my coordinator. Thought you might want to know they are no longer working in Taraz or Stepnogorsk. :-)
